About Dr. Carol Villanueva
Dr. Carol Villanueva specializes in internal medicine and has a passion for using functional and lifestyle medicine to address the root cause of chronic disease. She completed her bachelor’s of arts in psychology from Boston College. This was followed by a year of volunteer social service in Portland, Oregon helping people with HIV and AIDS. She then attended medical school at Nova Southeastern University obtaining a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and a master’s degree in Public Health. After graduation she did her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. She was chosen as Chief Resident with Dr. Cory Rice, her partner in practice, and together, they bring a more lifestyle based approach to traditional care.
Training through the Institute of Functional Medicine has given Dr. Villanueva the tools for addressing the root cause of disease and restoring health and wellness in the body by using proper nutrition as the foundation. She applies this in clinical practice by using therapeutic lifestyle programs to treat and often times reverse chronic diseases such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, heart disease, and dyslipidemia to name a few.
Another area of professional interest for Dr. Villanueva is hormone balancing for women and men. This includes peri-menopause, PMS, andropause, estrogen dominant states, pre and post-hysterectomy hormone management, and thyroid management. Dr. V is a certified BioTE provider. BioTe is a bio-identical hormone replacement therapy using subcutaneous pellets to treat hormone imbalances.
Outside of medicine, nutrition and wellness, Dr. Villanueva enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing with her kids, and traveling.
